Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Right to Life Political Action Committee today blasted a proposal by gubernatorial candidate Steve Marchand to expand New Hampshire abortions by insisting that taxpayer dollars be used to provide these procedures.

The Hyde Amendment is the federal law which prohibits the use of taxpayer funding for abortions except in the case of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. Surveys indicate that approximately 60% of the country’s population oppose taxpayer funding for abortions.

At a public gathering in Nashua on July 30, Marchand proposed that New Hampshire repeal the Hyde Amendment’s enforcement in New Hampshire, which would allow taxpayer funding of abortions.

“Steve Marchand is not only advocating for greater destruction of human life through eliminating the Hyde Amendment. He has previously called for taxpayers to fund abortions through the state’s Medicaid program. This is an outrageous and radical position which is far outside the New Hampshire tradition.  We call on Democratic candidate Molly Kelly and Governor Chris Sununu to make clear that they oppose this extremist position, and to call out this fringe candidate’s proposal,” said NHRTL PAC Chairman David G. Umbaugh.
